Don’t miss the new exhibition at Springs Art Gallery

This exhibition is a product born from the collaboration between the artists and Obtain Art.

The Springs Art Gallery (SAG) will host its art exhibition from February 26 to March 31.

Titled Kungani, the Zulu word for why this group exhibition reflects a day in the life of six interdisciplinary artists.

Kungani, just as the name describes, reflects on current societal conditions that disrupt or damage society, violence, inequality, racism, and the like.

Through their expressions, this group of artists explore and respond to what happens around them and affects them.

This ends up expressed through a variety of mediums, from collages to paintings and drawings.

The artists hope their art can influence these social issues, create awareness and expressions from the audience without losing sight of the aesthetic purpose of their works while presenting a specific but universal message of hope, change, and unity.

This exhibition is a product born from the collaboration between the artists and Obtain Art.

Obtain Art is an online art gallery promoting and showcasing artwork for sale by emerging, as well as mid-career and established artists working in different media and genres.

The platform offers the possibility for artists to grow their audience and sell their work to collectors and art lovers online.

The company also assists potential art collectors in starting an art collection for both investment and buying art for the home.

Artists include David Tsoka, Dipuo Sithole, Johan van Wyk, Sphiwe Fokazi, Thato Nkosi and Thulani Nhlapo.

With this exhibition, SAG aims to raise public awareness of emerging visual artists by providing exhibition space and an opportunity for people to meet artists and see their work physically and on an online platform.

The exhibition is part of the gallery’s experimental solo and group series project, which focuses on launching new careers of emerging and promising artists.

The project explores and illustrates creativity, thoughts and new ideas and reveals the role of art in dealing with everyday challenges and creative ways to offer hope amid the Covid-19 crisis.

It is further aimed at contributing to the awareness, promotion, revival and enrichment of SAG as an art resource centre.

Artists can book the gallery space for a limited period and cover the minimal costs of running the exhibition.

Artists need to approach the gallery by submitting proposals with portfolios of their works for consideration.

Kungani opened on February 26 at the local gallery from 9am to 4pm.

The gallery is open from Monday to Friday for public viewings and closed on weekends and public holidays.

The exhibition can be viewed online at www.obtain.co.za/kungani
