Piles of hyacinth left to rot at the dam

Residents unhappy with rotting hyacinth left around Presidents Dam

Springs residents were pleased to see hyacinths being removed from Presidents Dam, but at the same time, it seems the contractors have abandoned their posts.
Piles of removed hyacinth can be seen on the dam’s edge. Residents complain that a stench emanates from these piles.

“It is clear that something is wrong as there is no machinery in sight and all that’s left are piles of hyacinth rotting at the edge of the dam,” said ward councillor Ramesh Sheodin.
“Residents are complaining that the stink emanating from the hyacinth is causing health problems. I am making enquiries on what’s going on and hopefully I will get some answers soon.”
The Springs Advertiser is awaiting comment from the City of Ekurhuleni.
