A motorist was robbed of his car after stopping at a bogus roadblock on Tuesday night.
The victim was travelling in his white Toyota Hilux bakkie from Vischkuil towards the CBD when he saw four vehicles on Ermelo Road, near Erwat.
According to Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora, the cars were two white Volkswagen Polos, a Volkswagen Golf GTI and a marked EMPD Isuzu bakkie.

The victim told the police he believed it was a roadblock.
A man dressed in an EMPD uniform stopped the victim and asked for his driver’s licence.
When he handed the licence over, the “officer” pointed a firearm at him.
“He pepper sprayed one of them and a shot was fired behind his head. The next moment, about six men had jumped into his bakkie,” explained Ramphora.
A struggle ensued, during which the victim was subdued and bound with cable ties.

The hijackers asked for the victim’s PIN, which he provided.
After the men fled the scene, the victim realised he was in an area close to his home.
He walked home and informed the police of the incident.
The victim was severely assaulted and sustained injuries to his face.
