Olympia Park pool on the list for rehabilitation

Olympia Park swimming pool has been closed since 2015 due to major structural defects.

The Olympia Park Swimming Pool is on the IDP list for rehabilitation, according to the City of Ekurhuleni.
The pool’s deplorable state was highlighted in the Advertiser’s February 19 edition, ‘Beloved Springs pool unusable’.

“Olympia Park swimming pool has been closed since 2015 due to major structural defects.
“The swimming pool is on IDP list for rehabilitation.
“The pool is not cleaned as there are no staff at this facility to perform this function due to its closure.
“Staff were moved to operational pools,” said Ekurhuleni divisional head of communication and media relations Nhlanhla Cebekhulu.
Concerning the uncut grass surrounding the pool, Cebekhulu said: “The swimming pool grass is cut once a month but due to heavy rains and sunny weather recently a backlog developed, as is mostly the case during this season.
“The City is clearing this backlog at functional facilities first before moving to these unutilised facilities.”
