Busy weekend for EMPD

Man arrested for possession of illegal cigarettes

Over the weekend, members from the EMPD’s Swat/intervention unit on crime prevention operations, discontinued and impounded two branded private security company vehicles and arrested a man who was found driving a van filled with boxes full of illegal cigarettes.
Patrolling officers also stopped a silver Toyota Yaris and a white Nissan NP200 on the corner of Orr and Springs roads after they noticed the drivers of the two cars were driving recklessly and had sirens blaring on Friday, at approximately 8am.

The two cars were fully branded as belonging to a private security company and were impounded at the Springs Police Station.
Spokesperson for the EMPD Kobeli Mokheseng said the security company owner received a verbal warning as only emergency vehicles, with the exception of a hearse, are allowed to have/to be fitted with a siren.

The private security company cars were impounded at the Springs Police Station.

On Saturday, around 10am, the EMPD crime fighting squad stopped the driver of a white Ford Bantam on Van Blerk Street.
