Metro to clean blocked drain

Metro rail and the City of Ekurhuleni will partner up to resolve the problem.

Last week, in an article titled Blocked drain a hazard for residents, the Advertiser detailed how residents at a block of flats in Fifth Avenue, Geduld, dread the rain because the area floods.
One of the affected residents, Lisa Volbrecht, said they were at their wits end as to how to get help because the City of Ekurhuleni and Metro Rail both blamed each other for the problem and claimed they were not responsible for fixing the drain.

Nhlanhla Cebekhulu, divisional head of the Communication and Media Relations Department at the City of Ekurhuleni, said the municipality is aware of the problem.
When asked who was responsible for fixing the blockage, Cebekhulu said; “The stormwater catch pit is on the property of the City of Ekurhuleni and will be cleaned.
“This stormwater catch pit discharges into an open trench which is on the property of Metro Rail/Spoornet (PRASA) and they were requested to clean the trench.”
