Revellers leave a mess at George Sutter Park

George Sutter Park trashed by partygoers

Multiple residents have complained about the state of George Sutter Park in Selection Park.
Rampant littering and alleged weekend-long parties have left the park in a terrible state and raised concerns among local residents wanting to make use of the park.
“This weekend, the entire park was blocked off with cars and there was a massive party,” said resident Petrus Gerber.
“I don’t mind people using the park, but leaving all your empty beer bottles and keeping people up at night with loud music is unacceptable.”

Gerber and other residents have lodged their complaints with the City of Ekurhuleni, but claim they are yet to receive any feedback.
“There’s a terrible noise almost every night here, especially on the weekends, and people are becoming frustrated.
“Broken beer bottles are left everywhere and people urinate right outside these apartment complexes,” said resident Kathy Preston.
Residents say the park is rarely used by children as parents fear for the safety of their little ones.

Gerber said the metro has failed to empty the bins or clear the litter since the lockdown began in late March.
“You can complain all you want to the metro but they couldn’t care less about this park or the people that use it,” said Preston.
Residents say they want the municipality to listen to their concerns and take action.
Comment requested from the City will be published once it has been received.
