Speed humps on Selcourt road not warranted, says metro

Despite residents’ pleas to make the road safer, speed humps will not be installed on Ramona Road in Selcourt.
Road safety concerns in the area were recently highlighted in the Advertiser’s November 5 edition, “Fatal accident raises road safety concerns”.
It was reported that parents and teachers from Creative Education Centre, which is situated on Ramona Road, requested the municipality to install speed humps on the road following an accident in which a taxi driver was killed.

“In terms of the City of Ekurhuleni’s traffic calming policy, a technical evaluation model and sound engineering judgment must be applied to determine the warrants for traffic calming measures, and implement them as per accepted guidelines and policies,” said Ekurhuleni divisional head of communication and media relations, Nhlanhla Cebekhulu.

“After an investigation, this department regrets to inform that speed humps in Ramona Road are not warranted.
“An application was submitted last year August, an evaluation was conducted and two speed humps were warranted at the crèche on Alliance Road; however, the applicant had an intention to construct at their own cost as this application was part of a re-zoning application.
“Speed humps can only be constructed on Alliance Road at the crèche.”
