A 26-year-old man was arrested for fatally stabbing his pregnant ex-girlfriend in the Everest informal settlement on Monday afternoon.
According to information received from local police, the man approached his ex-girlfriend while she was taking a walk with her partner.
The woman’s partner fled after seeing the man was armed with a knife.

The man then allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the upper body and fled the scene.
She was declared dead on the scene by paramedics, who also established she was six months pregnant.
The community was outraged by the barbaric actions of the man and mobilised themselves to search for him.
He managed to evade capture by community members and handed himself over to the Springs Police Station.

The man was arrested and detained on a charge of murder, and will appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.
Acting Springs Police Station commander Col Eric Mandla Mhlongo appealed to the community to refrain from taking the law in their own hands and to allow the law to take its course.
