Bottle store owner opens fire on robber and accomplices

Business owner shoots at robber and accomplices

The owner of a Petersfield bottle store opened fire on a robber and two accomplices after she was held at gunpoint and robbed on Friday morning.
While none of the men were shot, a suspect was later arrested and the woman’s belongings were recovered.
The victim told police she was followed from the Springs Mall to her business by the occupants of a white Volkswagen Polo Vivo.
She arrived at the bottle store, parked outside and went inside the shop, where she took a laptop before leaving to go to her other business.

While leaving, she ran into a man who was entering the store.
She proceeded to her vehicle with a laptop bag which contained a laptop valued at R11 000.
While opening her car, the same man she had encountered earlier, approached her and showed her a gun.
She responded by raising her hands and the robber then took her laptop bag and two cellphones from her pockets.
The victim had her own firearm hidden in a pocket which the man did not find when he searched her.
Once he had taken the loot, the robber ran towards the white Polo she had noticed earlier.
The robber dropped a gun but did not stop to retrieve it while he was running away.
Seeing the men flee, the victim drew her gun and fired 10 times towards them.
Police found the cartridges on the scene.

The victim’s belongings were later recovered in Medea Street in Pollak Park after a security officer from SAPS spotted the white Polo and gave chase.
The three men got out of the vehicle and ran away when they saw the officer.
The officer continued the chase, and with the help of a passerby, one suspect was caught and arrested.
The firearm dropped by the robber was a 9mm Browning pistol with no magazine and the serial number filed off.
