Bakerton residents express dissatisfaction with metro over power woes

Bakerton residents want an explanation from metro about power problems

Bakerton residents signed a petition expressing their dissatisfaction with the City of Ekurhuleni’s response to the prolonged power outages the community suffered in August.
Residents of Bakerton and surrounding areas suffered a three-day power outage from August 29 to 31.
It has been claimed that despite numerous calls and emails to the metro, technicians were not dispatched to the area to address the problem.

In addition, some residents have reported receiving abnormally high electricity bills.
Ward councillor Ramesh Sheodin suspects this problem is due to the energy department taking incorrect readings of electricity meters or the meters not being read at all.
As a result, about 800 residents signed a petition expressing their dissatisfaction with how the metro responded to the issue.

“The community expects a response from the municipality stating how they are going to deal with future outages.
“It is clearly unacceptable that no technician was available to fix the outage,” said Sheodin.
Comment requested from the City of Ekurhuleni will be published once it has been received.
