Learning the art of working smart

Another to inspire the business minded

The popularity of the Hirsch’s Entrepreneurs workshops that have been running on a weekly basis remotely for the last six months have given fledgling and well-established entrepreneurs a much-needed shot of business adrenaline and confidence.
Hosted by two of South Africa’s top businesswomen, Margaret Hirsch (executive director, Hirsch’s) and business coach with ActionCOACH Marlene Powell (recipient of the Global ActionMan award with Action Coach), the workshop covers a wide range of topics.

Under discussion last week was how to work smart, and speakers included Nolitha Nkosi-Tshabalala, founder of Nolitha TS, a waste and dangerous goods transport service provider, and Nic Nortje, a business broker with Aldes Prestige Business Brokers.
Nic explained the value of business lies in the validity of its continued growth.
“Smart means things like smart lease agreements,” he said.
“The buyer needs to step into your shoes with no disruption, employees must have signed contracts on file.
“To value your business, the rule of thumb is net annual profit times two.”
According to Nolitha, passion is what makes most successful entrepreneurs work smart.
She had a passion for driving, which she learnt to do from an early age, and that is how she started her own transport service.

“Passion is so important. What is the point of running a business that you are not passionate about?” she asked.
“Working smart comes easily if you do what you love doing.”
The next workshop will focus on marketing, and October 1 will welcome guest speakers Daniyel Berry, founder of StyleMe, who managed to pivot her business during lockdown and has come out shining, and Newton Cross from the South African Butler Academy, who did the same.
