Electricity woes leave residents in the dark

“We have our invoices and proof of payment, but every time we talk to them they say they're investigating the matter, said resident Pinky Moyana

Residents from Welgedacht and Payneville gathered outside the offices of the energy department in Springs on Wednesday morning to demand answers to their electricity woes.
According to residents, the municipality cut their power supply without giving them prior warning and despite them paying their bills on time.

“We want to talk to them but they just run inside and hide from us.
“We have our invoices and proof of payment, but every time we talk to them they say it’s ‘under investigation’,” said resident Pinky Moyana.
Residents also claim their prepaid metres are faulty, resulting in them being unable to load electricity units.
Moyana continues: “This is corruption, and we want them to know that we have had enough.
“It is still cold and we are in the middle of Covid-19. They are putting our lives at risk.”
Comment requested from the City of Ekurhuleni will be published once it has been received.
