Renovations at library almost complete

Springs Library to reopen soon

Renovations have started at the Springs Library and residents can expect to make use of its services by the end of the month.
The library suffered major water damage in early 2019 after a massive storm passed through the town and has since been closed.

In May last year, the City of Ekurhuleni stated they required funding to address the following problems before they could reopen the library:
• Replace the damaged waterproofing on the roof to stop leakage from the roof that causes damage to all internal assets.
• Repair/replace the electrical wiring that has been damaged as a result of the roof leakage.
• Replace damaged carpets.
• Paint the walls.
• Replace damaged cupboards and other minor things.
With regards to the repairs, Karin Muller, from Library and Information Services, explained heating, ventilation and air conditioning have been completed, as well as the roof resealing.
She added the final phases of refurbishing the library’s interior is underway.
“We are currently finishing the replacement of all the carpets and plan to have the full staff working on September 14 at the latest,” she said.

Ward councillor Dean Stone is happy with the progress and hopes library services can return to normal as soon as possible.
In the meantime, Springs readers can join the virtual library to read the latest best-sellers.
The virtual library allows readers to borrow e-books to read on their digital devices for up to 14 days.
Readers can also recommend titles that are not already on the platform.
