Postive Covid case at Payneville Clinic

Payneville clinic closed after positive Covid-19 case

Patients wishing to receive treatment at the Payneville Clinic were denied entrance on Tuesday.

Patients lined up outside the clinic and were visibly distressed and confused.

Clinic workers say the closing of the clinic comes as a result of a staff member testing positive for Covid-19.

A worker at the clinic, who wishes to remain anonymous, says:

“We want to keep the people as safe as possible.

“All of us are affected by this in some way and we can’t afford to take any chances.”

Mobile clinics have been ordered and we are waiting for them to arrive.

“Once they arrive we can start helping these people.”

One distressed patient, Tembesha Malo, says: “They are telling us to wait.

“I have been here since 7am, waiting for them to help me with my leg.

“I am in a lot of pain and I can?t stand here and wait all day.”

The staff say they are afraid of their own well-being and refuse to work until they have been tested for Covid-19, and the positive cases quarantined.

As of Wednesday morning, some of the staff have received tests for Covid-19, but are still waiting for the promised mobile clinics to arrive.

The metro have failed to respond to our inquiries at time of publication.
