Police warn public about reporting fake cases

Police upset after woman opens false case

The Springs Police are urging people to refrain from opening false cases and wasting the police’s time.

This comes after a woman told police she had been kidnapped and assaulted by a group of men.

Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says the woman’s partner became concerned after she didn’t come back from getting water outside.

The police immediately started looking for the woman and when they eventually found her, she told police she had been kidnapped and assaulted.

When pressed for more details, it eventually emerged that the woman had gone to a party in Katlehong, without telling her partner.

Ramphora says the public should not waste police resources.

“In the time of heightened violence against women and children, police take these cases very seriously.

“At present, we’re not sure if the woman will face any charges,” says Ramphora.
