Local businesses can’t wait to start operating

Local businesses look forward to reopening as they gear up for a 'new normal'.

Kwa-Thema – Local salon owners support the motion to have their businesses up and running.

African Reporter spoke to Gilda Mahangaja Chauke of Zito Hair Salon in Kwa-Thema.

This follows the announcement made by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday that personal care services, such as beauty bars and hair salons, will be allowed to reopen under strict safety conditions, including restaurants for sit in eating. The salon was established in 2009.

“This whole shut down has affected our businesses and we don’t know if things will ever get back to normal.

“I haven?t been able to pay rent for the last three months because I had no source of income.

“I think the President has been thoughtful in easing up some of the regulations.

“Of course it still remains our responsibility to ensure to follow the rules and protect our clients and us, the people who are operating these businesses,” says Chauke.

However, it is not known yet when will this be as an official date is yet to be announced.

“So far I have been thinking about changes I will have to implement to corroborate with the lockdown rules and regulations, but also keeping safe.

“People who would like to support us must keep in mind that without a mask there will be no entry.

“It is important at this stage because we also have to play our part in curbing the spread of the virus,” she adds.
