Business robbery in New Era

Goods to the value of R45 000 were taken.

A New Era scrapyard was robbed by four suspects last Friday evening, says Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.

The complainant, a 40-year-old man who is employed as a security guard and lives on the premises, says while having dinner in his locked room inside a storage facility, a small compressor was thrown into the facility through a window.

Four suspects then climbed in and overpowered the complainant.

The suspects threatened the complainant and demanded he tell them where the copper was kept before they tied him up using wires.

The suspects then broke into the office where the copper and brass are kept and loaded everything into a waiting bakkie.

Before leaving, the suspects untied the complainant and took his cellphone and sound system before instructing him to go back to sleep.

The value of the stolen items and money is approximately R45 000.

No shots were fired during the robbery and no injuries were reported.
