Police put out fire in Geduld

Springs police officers Lt Col Sybrand van der Merwe, Lt Col Marinda Brandt, Capt Madeleine Theron and WO Celia Prins saved a man’s house from burning down in Orange Hof on Wednesday.

The police were patrolling the area when they noticed a house engulfed by smoke.

The police stopped their vehicle to check what was going on and realised the fire was in the yard.

Without hesitation, they called the fire brigade before grabbing a hose pipe and buckets to put out the fire with the help of neighbours.

The owner of the house, who was inside at the time of the fire, was shocked when the police called him and told him there was a fire outside.

Fortunately the fire was contained before reaching the house.

The police and neighbours managed to contain the fire.

“The owner of the house was thrilled by the swift reaction of police and neighbours.

He applauded them for saving his property and life,” says Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.
