Doctor Langanani Mbodi who is a Gynaecologist Oncologist at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and a lecturer at University of Witwatersrand has formed a partnership with Pholosong Hospital to provide Gynecological services to the public.

Tsakani – Doctor Langanani Mbodi, a gynaecologist oncologist at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and a lecturer at University of Witwatersrand has formed a partnership with Pholosong Hospital to provide gynaecology services to the public.

His role will include providing support to doctors working at Pholosong Hospital’s obstetrics and gynaecology department (O&G) and offering his expertise once a week for the hospital to better manage diseases such as endometriosis, fibroids, cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal and vulvar cancers, among other conditions.

The service, which was previously not available at the hospital is part of the hospital’s outreach programme.

“The outreach will help improve the quality of care provided by guiding attending physicians on how to work with cancer patients, prepare for theory and provide continued follow-up care.

Pholosong Hospital introduce gynaecology services which are accessible to the public.

“It is also intended to influence and stimulate interest into the gynaecology oncology field of obstetrics and hynaecology and perhaps establish and develop Pholosong Hospital as a mini oncology centre for the East Rand,” explain Mbodi.

In the past patients who required gynaecology oncology care were referred to tertiary institutions.

“Accessing this specialised service for many was a challenge and it often delayed treatment, as diagnosis usually took longer.

“However, with the presence of an in house gynecological oncology many unnecessary deaths will be prevented,” he adds.

Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at Pholosong Hospital Dr Bernard Uzabakiriho says: “We are happy to see progress at the hospital, this will come highly beneficial for many women within Kwatsaduza and surrounding areas.

“Patients who need surgical interventions will be prepared and operated on by Dr Mbodi on his outreach day.

The community is encouraged to contact the obstetrics and gynaecology department on 011 812 5058/5264 for bookings or any inquiries.
