Given ‘The Giver’ does it again

Given believes that dealing with food insecurity should be prioritised.

Given ‘The Giver’ Muhlarhi, is known for his generous nature, so it was no surprise to many when he stepped in to help Nthabiseng Manaledi on Monday.

This after an article Monaledi’s struggles during the lockdown period had been doing the rounds on social media.

She is partially blind.

Monaledi (55), from Kwa-Thema, is a single mother who depends on handouts to support her family.

“She does not have an ID and because of that she has not been able to apply for a grant.

But we have helped with that process.

We want to see her having her own home because right now she is living in a shack.”

Given ‘The Giver’ Muhlarhi is committed to setting the children of Ekurhuleni to be successful and change the futures of their families.

The Giver brought groceries for the family, and then decided to go on a shopping spree with Monaledi’s son.

“It is important for him to have winter clothes now.”

Given ‘The Giver’ started his movement by donating school shoes and uniforms.

“Growing up in the Benoni area I understand the poverty of the people of Ekurhuleni.

I have been to enough community meetings to realise how much people are struggling,” says the business man.

His dream was fueled even further when he discovered the metro’s plans to build a university in Ekurhuleni.

“My dream is to see that 75 per cent of the students in that university are children from Ekurhuleni.

So we have to nurture the children who are in primary school, and prepare them for university.”

The food parcel donations programme has been in response to the Covid-19 national lockdown.

He believes that dealing with food insecurity should be prioritised.

“We have to help the whole family in order to reach the children.”

To date, Given has donated more than 4 000 food parcels around Ekurhuleni since the national lockdown was announced.
