Addie staff in the kitchen: Delicious fruit crumble

A quick and easy recipe to make the perfect fruit crumble. Warning: You may help yourself to seconds or thirds.

For this week’s recipe of the week, we baked a mouth-watering fruit crumble as the perfect dessert.

FRUIT CRUMBLE:

STEP 1: Gather all your ingredients.

Ingredients:

• 500 ml (2 cups) self-raising flour

• 200 ml sugar

• Pinch of salt

• 200 g (215 ml) butter/margarine

• A bit of desiccated coconut and/or chopped nuts

• 1 tin (825 g) canned fruit (any kind) or stewed fruit

Method:

STEP 2: Preheat the oven to 180°C. Sieve the self-raising flower, sugar and salt together.

STEP 3: Crumble the room temperature butter/margarine into the ingredients. Note: Do not microwave the butter if it is refrigerated or hard. If it is hard, do what I did and grate the butter in. Just like cheese. Works wonders. You need to use your hands and it may get a little messy.

When finished, it should look similar to this. Make sure the crumbs are small and that there are no big pieces you missed.

STEP 4: Add desiccated coconut and/or nuts and mix through. (I did not add nuts, not a fan of them.)

STEP 5: Use an oven-safe dish with a volume of about 2 litres and give a coating of non-stick spray or butter.

STEP 6: Add canned or stewed fruit to bowl.

STEP 7: Carefully add your crumble on top.

STEP 8: Evenly spread the crumble so that it covers all the fruit.

STEP 9: Bake for at lea\st 30 minutes until crust is a nice golden brown colour. Let cool off.

STEP 10: Dish up and serve lukewarm or even cold. Enjoy!
