Springs police are investigating a case of murder after a body was found in an open field on South Main Reef Road, New Era, at 11.20am on Saturday.
Sgt Mahlakwana says he received notice of the dead body from radio control.
Upon his arrival, he found a security officer waiting for him.
The man told Mahlakwana that he had been approached by a resident of Never-Never squatter camp and informed about the location of the body.
The body was that of an unidentified man lying on his stomach with his hands tied behind his back.
An ID book was found about 15m from the body. Police have yet to determine if the document belonged to the dead man.
