Family of three found dead in Winnie Mandela, toddler survives

Two-year-old survives a family tragedy in Winnie Mandela section.

Three people were found dead in a rented backyard room in Winnie Mandela Zone 1, and a toddler who survived, on April 3.

The family was found dead by one of the family member’s colleague.

Communications officer of Rabasotho SAPS Capt Manyaza Ralidzhivha said the one of the dead members and the colleague were doing tiling together.

“When he arrived at the place where his co-worker resided, he opened the door and was welcomed by a bad smell coming from the room. He only peeped inside the room and saw people lying down. He then immediately informed the landlord and the deceased’s brother.

“Police were summoned on the scene immediately.

“During further investigations, the police and paramedics discovered that there were three dead people inside, the husband, wife, and a six-year-old girl. With them was a two-year-old toddler.

“The toddler was taken to Thembisa Hospital immediately. The cause of their deaths are still not determined at the moment, until post-mortem results come back. According to the landlord, the dead tenants were last seen on March 25,” said Capt Ralidzhivha.
