Everything that could be sold for scrap metal has been stolen from the stadium over the years.

The Bakerton Stadium is being renovated and upgraded, much to the delight of residents.

The stadium has been subjected to theft and vandalism since 2013, and is rendered unusable.

Currently, the stadium is in a terrible state.

Everything that could be sold for scrap metal has been stolen from the stadium over the years.

This includes all the corrugated iron roofs, window frames and steel doors of the change rooms and squash courts.

Renovation efforts have been made many times, only for the stadium to be vandalised soon after, says ward councillor Ramesh Sheodin.

Sheodin says: “Hopefully this time the residents will take ownership and protect the stadium.

“The stadium will keep the youth off the streets and will be an upgraded sports centre.”

The upgrades will include the installation of a new grandstand to draw more members of the community.

The plan also includes space for the Bakerton CPF to operate from in an effort to make the stadium a safer place and curb incidents of vandalism.
