Suspects empty shop till during armed robbery

The suspects fled the scene in a white VW Golf 6 that was parked next to the shop.

Four suspects robbed a Geduld shop of approximately R6 000 last Tuesday evening.

Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says four suspects entered the shop on Fourth Avenue and one of the suspects who had a gun, pointed it at the manager before taking cigarettes and emptied the till, which had approximately R6 000 inside.

The suspects fled the scene in a white VW Golf 6 that was parked next to the shop.

The manger chased after the suspects with his car in the direction of Springs Civic Centre where the suspects crashed their car close to the railway line.

According to the manager, the suspects abandoned the car and ran away.

Due to unknown reasons the car caught alight after the suspects had fled.

The car will be taken to Van Rhyn Deep in Benoni.

No shots were fired during the robbery and no injuries were reported.
