Hijacking on Wit Road

The suspects first flicked their lights at him to stop, but he ignored them and carried on, until they flashed their blue lights.

A man was hijacked on Wit Road last Friday.

Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says the victim was driving his bakkie at approximately 10.15am when he noticed he was being followed by a white VW Polo with male suspects inside.

The suspects first flicked the car’s lights at him to stop, but he ignored them and carried on, until they flashed their blue lights.

He then stopped on Wit Road and two suspects approached him and instructed him to open the door.

One of the suspects pointed his gun at the victim before pushing him to the back seat and blindfolded him using his T-shirt.

They drove away with him to an unknown open veld and took his cash and bank card after demanding the pin from him.

The suspects then left the victim under the care of one of the suspects while they went to withdraw money.

After sometime they called and informed their friend they had withdrawn R8 000.

After confirming the bakkie had a tracking device, they took the victim and dropped him off near a township.

The victim was assisted by a passerby who informed him he was in Tsakane and borrowed him a phone to call his uncle to come fetch him.

In addition to the bakkie and money, the suspects also stole the victim’s cellphones.
