Guards tied up during construction site robbery

The suspects then drained diesel out of the trucks on site, took two truck batteries, a tank of diesel and stole unknown items out of a container.

Two guards were tied up together during a construction site robbery on Ramona Street, last Friday evening.

Springs Police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says a security guard was doing a routine patrol around the site, while her partner was in the guard room.

While patrolling, she was approached by four suspects, three of whom had guns and wore balaclavas.

One of the armed suspects ordered the victim to go to the guard room, where the suspects tied up the guards together, using shoelaces.

The suspects then drained diesel out of the trucks on site, took two truck batteries, a tank of diesel and stole unknown items out of a container.

The guard’s cellphones, valued at R1 500, were also taken.

There were no shots fired during the robbery and no injuries were reported.
