Taxi boss shot and killed

He died in a hail of bullets.

A 48 year-old-male was shot and killed in a hail of bullets on the corner of Nigel Road and Coaton Avenue in Selcourt, Springs.

Sgt Harry Manaka, spokesperson for the Duduza police station, says the man, who is a well-known taxi owner was said to be on his way home, on Friday.

He was driving alone in his blue Toyota Hilax bakkie and stopped at a red traffic light when a yellow BMW, with an unknown number of occupants inside, stopped next to him.

The occupants opened fired on his vehicle, killing him instantly.

Police found more than 35 cartridge cases on the scene of the incident.

According to Manaka, the motive of the killing is unknown at this stage, police cannot rule out the possibility of taxi violence.

The SAPS are appealing to anyone who may have information that can assist in arresting the alleged perpetrators to contact the Saps on 0118116600 or the Saps Crime Stop at 0800 10111.
