If you’ve ever wanted to take a good look around the Geduld Cemetery to find out about Springs’s residents of days gone by, this is the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Tony da Cruz, who shares Springs’s rich history with the city’s residents on the Springs – History of a Gold Town has organised an Explore the Graveyard day, on February 29, for anyone who is interested in taking a poke around.

He has organised with his staff at Prosafe to safeguard the gates and parking lot to keep residents and their belongings safe for the day, making it the ideal time to find out all about Springs’s first families and their descendants.

Prosafe will be on duty from 9am to 11am and again from 2pm to 4pm and everyone is welcome.

“The aim is to offer the opportunity to as many people as possible to feel comfortable visiting the graveyard to find out about their ancestors and the people who shaped Springs.

“There is lots of interesting history just waiting to be found,” says Tony.

Security will be provided free of charge, so if you don’t have any plans for leap day, why not join Tony on a hunt for historical facts about old Springs families.
