Metro puts more effort into waste management backlog

“Work has started in earnest to clear waste collection backlogs following the dismissal of 49 waste workers in Kempton Park."

Rua-Con Waste Management was spotted in the Springs CBD since this morning, but the metro is yet to confirm if the company is aiding it in waste collection.

This after rubbish started to pile up again on street corners.

In a statement, the metro says: “Work has started in earnest to clear waste collection backlogs following the dismissal of 49 waste workers in Kempton Park.

“All depot managers are on alert.

“The City also assures residents that there is enough capacity in terms of equipment and manpower to eradicate the said backlogs by Friday, February 7, 2020.”

It says that this will happen while normal waste collection services continue according to the schedule for the city, thanks to “the additional capacity that the City has put in place to augment the existing capacity to provide uninterrupted and effective waste collection services”.

The City apologises for any inconvenience that might have been caused by this turn of events.

Bins are overflowing with rubbish as residents and businesses wait for the metro to collect refuse.
