Driver tricked into pulling over on the N17

The driver was hijacked on the Tonk Meter off-ramp.

A driver was hijacked after he was tricked into pulling over on the N17 last Thursday evening, says Springs Police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.

The complainant was driving a Mercedes-Benz truck horse with registration number HW21DV GP and trailer registration number HX89ZW GP, with oil as cargo, on the N17 when two vehicles passed him and both alerted him that there was something wrong at the back of the truck.

He then pulled over at the Thema / Tonk Meter off-ramp and he was approached by eight suspects, armed with guns who ordered him out of the truck.

The complainant tried to run away but they caught him and forced him into the back of the truck where he was covered in a blanket.

They drove off with him before they eventually dropped him off in Pretoria central, where he was assisted to go to the police station and open a case.

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.
