Metro responds to Payneville sewage problem

Gadebe says they were not aware of the flooding on Bafana Street.

Last month, residents in Payneville, ‘Sewage and flooding in Payneville street,’ detailed how they can barely breathe due to the stench of sewage that surrounds them on Bafana and Ndamase Streets.

Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe has now responded to the residents’ complaints.

Gadebe says they were not aware of the flooding on Bafana Street.

“However, a complaint was received from Ndamase Street in the same area, which was unblocked within 23 hours after receiving the complaint could have led to the overflow in Bafana Street.

“One of the contributing factors of the frequent overflow, especially during the raining season, is the storm water infiltration into the sewer network that leads to the overcapacity of the network.

“We are currently investigating the area to find the spots where storm water is infiltrating the network.

“A contractor has been instructed to rebuild the two man holes in Ndamase Street,” says Gadebe.
