Man hijacked by suspect wearing SAPS gear

A man was hijacked by a suspect wearing an SAPS reflector jacket and cap yesterday morning on the N12 East Benoni.

Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says the victim was driving a white Hino truck with the registration DN70PS GP along the N12, when he was stopped by a black Tuscon car with blue lights and four occupants.

One of the occupants stepped out of the car, wearing an SAPS reflector jacket and cap and asked the driver for driver’s licence and to search the truck.

The complainant stepped out of the truck to open the cargo side when the suspect suddenly pulled out his gun and ordered the victim to get into their car.

The other two suspects took the truck keys from him and he was ordered to lie down inside the car and they drove away with him.

He was dropped off at Modder East along the fields.

In addition to the truck, which was worth R600 000, the suspects also took the victim’s cellphone, wallet, driver’s license and bank cards.

No shots were fired during the robbery and no injuries were reported.
