Man allegedly robbed by neighbour in Daggafontein

The man tried to hold the door closed but was overpowered by the suspects, who threatened him with a knife and demanded cash from him once they were in the house.

A pensioner started the new year on a bad note when he became the victim of a house robbery last Wednesday morning at the Daggafontein informal settlement.

Springs Police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says the 59-year-old man was sleeping when he was suddenly awakened by a loud noise that seemed to come from the main door.

When he woke up, he realised there were suspects at his door trying to force their way in.

He gave the suspects R975, and they also took five live chickens from the coop.

The complainant had minor bruises on his hands and was able to identify one of the suspects, who lives in the area, by his voice.
