African Reporter spoke to the Kwatsaduza community to find out how they go about picking the best gifts for their loved ones.

Twenty-seven-year-old Andile Saliso says:

“To avoid buying things people do not want or need, I always ask them directly what it is that they want.

“If you do not tell me what it is that you want then you have no reason of being upset with whatever I give you,” says Saliso.

Abigail Mokhombo says for her, it is the thought that counts.

“I think we need to learn to be appreciative, for the mere fact that someone thought of buying you something. It shows that they care. Not everyone can afford expensive gifts and not everyone gets to receive gifts,” says Mokhombo.

For Shane Mokoena, the worst that could happen is two people buying the same present for the same person.

“We need to start being open about gifts and who is buying what and for whom, because in the past, my sister and I once bought my mom the same gift and we both had lost the receipts.

“That is why I am reluctant about buying gifts. I now give gift cards,” says Mokoena.
