Police and community rewarded for hard work

The ceremony was also held in remembrance of officers who had lost their lives during the course of the year.

The Springs police held their annual year-end Prestige Awards meeting at Riverside Country Estate on Wednesday afternoon.

Prominent members of the police force, members of the Springs CPF and various ward councillors were present.

The awards went to stand-out members of the detective services, members of visible policing (Vispol), the support services; Station Commander’s Awards were also given.

Capt Mariaan Benade, WO Malusi Masikane and Lt Rosemary Mkese were eager to watch the proceedings.

Capt Johannes Ramphora assumed the role of announcer and various people commented on how they thought the year went.

Springs SAPS station commander Brig Thembeka Gwebushe says: “We are here to celebrate our accomplishments and to ensure the communities that they are safe.

“We would also like to thank the CPF for their hard work.

“Without them, none of what we have accomplished would have been possible.

“Crime is down and we are doing well.”

Selection Park ward Clr Shadow Shabangu, customer relations manager of KwaThema Customer Care Centre Andries Nkabinde and Geduld ward Clr Thulani Simelane were at the event to give feedback on the progress made this year.

CPF chairperson Barend van Heerden thanked the police for their hard work.

Van Heerden says: “Since October, crime has gone down and that’s all because of the hard work of the police and the CPF.”

Geduld ward Clr Thulani Simelane says: “The decrease in crime over the last month shows that we are stronger when we work together.”

The event ended with an award ceremony where stand-out members of the force were lauded for what they achieved during the year.

Awards for the detective services were:

• Detective Employee of the Year – Sgt Emmanuel Maseko

• Detective Admin Employee of the Year – Martie Nienaber

• Crime Office Group of the Year – Sgt Khany Maseko

Awards for Vispol were:

• Vispol Member of the Year – Const Vincent Bosoga

• Vispol Employee of the Year – senior data typist Fransisca de Wet

• Operational Vispol Team of the Year – Lt Thabo Maake and his team of 24 members

Awards for support services were:

• Support Officer of the Year – Lt Col Anna Nkosi

• Support Employee of the Year – Schanelle Nel

• Support Sub-Component of the Year – Lt Col Louise Droskie

• Employee with Disability of the Year – Anuska Hayden

The Station Commander’s Awards were:

• General Worker of the Year – cleaner Lindiwe Sithebe

• Reservist of the Year – Const Rian Nienaber

• Excellence Service and Loyalty Award – Mike du Toit

• Springs Community Policing Forum Award – Barend van Heerden
