Lest we forget, says Springs Boys’ High on Remembrance Day.

Hostilities formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

Representatives from organisations such as Memorable Order of Tin Hats (MOTH), Memorable Order of Tin Hats Women’s Auxiliary (MOTHWA), Sea Cadets and the family and friends of those who have died came together to pay their respects to them.

In her Remembrance Day address, Suzanne Shaw celebrated the humanity of soldiers who were fighting during the First World War.

“On Christmas Day, in what is known as the Christmas Day Truce, opposing forces sang carols and even played a game of football against each other.

“Despite the brutality of the war, the soldiers never forgot their humanity,” says Shaw.

The school also paid tribute to former learners and staff who have died.

The event ended with the laying of wreaths and flowers at the memorial and Wall of Remembrance.
