This opportunity was also used by various speakers who tackled the growing issue of gender-based violence plaguing South Africa.

The stand-out speaker was rape survivor Sixolile Mbalo who gave a testimony on her experiences, which are further detailed in her book Dear Bullet.

Mbalo says, “I want to share my story with people to let them know that gender-based violence is not acceptable, and I hope that victims can learn from my experiences and will be inspired to come forward for help.”
