Hijacking victims help each other after ordeal

When the suspects left the victim, he met up with the victim of the first incident and both men ran to the Vischkuil Community Centre where the security guards assisted them and phoned the Springs Police Station.

Two hijacking victims ended up fleeing together after they were both hijacked on the N17 yesterday evening.

In the first incident, the man was on the N17, near the Delmas Nigel off-ramp when a white unmarked VW Golf 7 with blue lights and sirens pulled him over.

One suspect dressed in full SAPS uniform, armed with a 9mm pistol, stepped out of the car and approached the driver.

Two more suspects dressed in civilian clothing suddenly appeared and jumped into the rear seats of the man’s car and said it was hijacking and he must cooperate with them so he is not harmed.

A fourth suspect then appeared and tied the victim up with cable ties and drove off with him in the direction of Mpumalanga until they reached a bush and ordered him to lie down on the ground.

The suspects then took his bank cards and requested the pin codes.

The suspects ran away when a white Toyota Hilux bakkie appeared.

The victim also started to run away from the scene and met up with the victim of the second incident.

In the second incident, a 34-year-old man was driving his white Toyota Hilux bakkie on the N17 near the Delmas Leandra off-ramp when an unmarked VW Golf 7 pulled him off the road.

The suspects used the same modus operandi as in the first hijacking.

The victim’s wallet, with R800 in cash inside, cellphones, laptop, three bank cards and fuel card were also taken and pin numbers were also requested.

The victim was also taken to a bush and tied up with cable ties.
