Man killed during attempted hijacking in Dersley

During the incident, her husband was fighting with the other suspect in the back of the car.

A man was shot twice during an attempted hijacking in Dersley last Thursday evening.

Springs Police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says the complainant had just stopped at the gate of the house when she noticed a white vehicle drive past her.

The next minute, she suddenly saw a suspect, who had a firearm, next to her.

A second suspect also suddenly appeared at her husband’s side and pushed him to the back of the car.

That suspect then got into the passenger seat next to her, held her at gunpoint and instructed her to drive.

During the incident, her husband fought with the other suspect in the back of the car.

The suspect in the front seat then turned around and shot her husband in the neck and chest before the pair fled the scene.

The complainant asked a bystander for help. The bystander took them to Far East Rand Hospital, where the husband died.

No arrests have been made.
