Man dies after assault in Everest informal settlement

The men were busy assaulting the victim with a pick handle and a chain, asking him questions about a cable.

A man died at the Far East Rand Hospital (FERH) after he was assaulted with a pick handle by several men in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says the complainant was awakened by the sound of people arguing outside and saw the victim and five other males and two cars parked next to the gate.

The men were busy assaulting the victim with a pick handle and a chain, asking him questions about a cable.

The suspects also asked the victim who else was in the shack and he replied it was the complainant’s boyfriend.

The suspects then kicked the door open and the victim saw that as an opportunity to run away.

Later that morning the community brought the victim back and called an ambulance.

One of the suspects came back with the door and informed the complainant that he will come back later to clean the blood.

The victim later died at FERH.
