Markville flats flooded

"The water is flooding into my place now and I am afraid that my things will get damaged.”

At least four flats in Markville have flooded when the pipes started leaking two weeks ago.

The floods are caused by leaking pipes in the ceiling and some four flats are badly flooded.

The balconies and the stairs are also flooded, placing the elderly residents at risk of falling and injuring themselves.

As a result of the water, many residents are without electricity..

Resident Willie Vermaak says: “All of this water will cause a lot of damage to these flats.

“The water is flooding into my place now and I am afraid that my things will get damaged.

“Who’s going to pay for all of it?”

The metro have failed to respond at time of publication.

On Monday morning, resident Ben Grobler said the leakage was fixed on Friday by contractors from the metro.
