Residents frustrated by noise from informal settlements

Ramphora added that the challenge they have is that they will shut down one illegal tavern today and another will crop up the following day.

Bakerton residents are frustrated by the noise from the informal settlements that surround the area.

Residents allege the noise is at it’s worst from Friday night to Sunday night and have called the police numerous times to no avail.

Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora denied that the police have not done anything regrading the noise complaints.

“Our first operation there was in the last week of May, where we confiscated large speakers and liquor.

“The most recent operation was last week where we also confiscated speakers.”

Ramphora added that the challenge they have is that they will shut down one illegal tavern today and another will crop up the following day.

“We will continue to monitor the area and conduct regular searches,” says Ramphora.
