Selcourt Pre-Primary donate to The Hoppers Haven.

It was a heartwarming Wednesday morning at Selcourt Pre-Primary as the school hosted a soup drive for The Potters Haven.

The Potters Haven is a shelter that caters mainly for sexually abused children and is now home to 18 children.

A note was sent home to the students, asking their parents to donate soup, cereal or vegetables for the shelter.

They all came forth and an entire box full of provisions was collected for the residents of Potters Haven.

General manager of Potters Haven Andries Kleynhans says, “We want this to be an occasion for the children to learn to give back to their community.

“We also want them to heed the message of ‘you can be the change you want to see in the world’.”

Kleynhans says that what he witnessed was an “absolute sign of love.”

Deputy principal Vince Senekal says, “We have supported Potters Haven many times and we see it as a good opportunity to get youngsters involved in things like these.”

The school also used this as a lesson to teach the children humility and give them perspective on life.

“We show them that not all children have a family and a warm bed to sleep in at night.

“We want them to become more grateful of what they already have,” says school secretary Rosalind Hart.
