Alida Kruger shows off her culinary skills in Cape Town

Local boerewors connoisseur Alida Kruger took part in this year’s Championship Boerewors Competition in Cape Town on Wednesday.
It was down to the wire as this time it was the top 10 finalist who battled it out on the shores of Grand Africa Café & Beach to see who will come out on top with the best boerewors.
“I want to prove that age is no barrier to creativity.
“That’s why I entered South Africa’s biggest boerewors competition.
“Making it to the top 10 is an achievement in itself,” says Kruger.

The contestants had to go all out to impress an independent panel of judges of culinary experts from the South African Chefs Association (SACA), tasked with selecting this year’s winning boerewors.
Although Kruger did not win, she says: “It was very nice; the event was well planned and actually quite relaxing.”
Kruger says she has always loved cooking and has been doing it since she can remember.
“I loved it so much that in 2008 I decided to enter the competition just to see what it would be like,” says Kruger.
She says that all the preparing and cooking is done by the competitors and that people tend to become very competitive – in a good way.
“But at the end of the day everyone enjoyed it.
“We met new people and made some great friends,” says Kruger.
Kruger also stated that she has plans on entering next year’s instalment of the competition.

Olivier Kritzinger won this year and his boerewors will be sold in Shoprite and Checkers stores nationwide.
He walked away with prizes worth more than R500 000, including a Toyota Fortuner 2.4 GD-6 4X4 6AT.
Kritzinger says he is overwhelmed and grateful for his victory.
