Man shot during armed robbery in Everest

After the owner went back inside the shebeen, he was informed money had also been taken from the till.

A man was shot in the head during an armed robbery at a tavern in Everest informal settlement last Saturday morning, says Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.

The tavern owner was busy serving customers when five suspects walked in, one armed with a firearm and the other with knives.

Realising what was happening, the landlord came from one of the rooms and chased the suspects out of the shebeen, where there was an altercation between them.

The tavern owner then heard a gunshot and when he went outside, found the landlord with a wound to his head, and his firearm was missing.

The vicitm was rushed to Far East Rand Hospital by the tavern owner’s uncle.

After the owner went back inside the shebeen, he was informed money had also been taken from the till.

A case docket of attempted murder and armed robbery has been opened.
