Thulani Fuzile is keeping Third Street spotless

Thulani Fuzile has committed himself to single handily clean Third Street.

According to local businessman Bato Jakovljevic, Fuzile can be spotted cleaning Third Street from as early as 6am every morning and works straight through to the afternoon on some days.

“It’s so wonderful to see someone do something like this.

“It’s horrible to see how dirty these streets are, but if you look at Third Street after he’s done it’s spotless.

“He picks up all the rubbish, loose glass and sweeps; he works very hard,” says Jakovljevic.

Fuzile is not employed by anyone and receives pay in the form of tips, and Jakovljevic feels this is a great injustice.

When Fuzile is done cleaning the streets, he washes and watches the cars in Fourth Street.

Jakovljevic says, “I feel very sorry for him.

“He is an old man and I think it’s very unfair that he does all this work and gets no payment.

“Sometimes I will go up to him and just give him a R10 and a coke or something.

It’s the least I can do.”

Various people from Third Street also expressed their gratitude to Fuzile’s hard work.

“I’ve been doing this every day for about two years now

“I just do this to survive.
