Female officers reminded of their role in society

“Today, as women, we enjoy this freedom and occupying different positions because of those women,” she says.

KwaThema – Women of the KwaThema SAPS exchanged their work boots for heels to celebrate Women’s Day at Riverside Country Estate last Thursday.

The event was also graced by other women in law enforcement, from the Department of Correctional Services.

KwaThema police spokesperson Const Media Khoza says the women were reminded of their positions in society as law enforcers.

KwaThema SAPS station commander Col Mareketle Thobejane encouraged women to love themselves beyond the call of duty.

Female officers from KwaThema SAPS were called to embrace their uniqueness and beauty as police officers.

“Female officers should embrace their bravery for choosing this dangerous and life-threatening field every single day.

“We see women across the country continuing to excel and fight crime in their community, and on this day we celebrate these women.

“Always remember that you are beautiful and the country celebrates you as a heroine,” she says.

Thobejane remind women about the seed which was planted by the women of 1956 who marched the streets of Tshwane to the Union Buildings to register their dissatisfaction against the pass law.

“Today, as women, we enjoy this freedom and occupying different positions because of those women,” she says.

Thobejane was pleased and called for more women empowerment initiatives, and support structures to improve individual capabilities leading to a better society.

Khoza encouraged women by saying there is still life after abuse.

“The stereotype that there will always be a dark cloud hanging over the victims of abuse doesn’t exist.

“I am calling these women to wear their scars with pride and help those who are still trapped in an abusive environment.

“Abused women are called to report their abusers to the police; we have different departments with officers who are trained to deal with different cases.

“Internally, we have the Employee Health Wellness Programme meant to help those who are affected.

“We are not encouraging victims to take the law into their own hands,” she says.
