Drivers held at gunpoint during hijacking in Springs Extension

In addition to the goods removed from the courier van, the suspects also took the crew's cellphones and drove off.

A courier van was stolen in Springs Extension while the drivers were making a delivery on Friday morning.

Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says the driver and delivery crew were at the address when two suspects, one armed with a firearm, suddenly appeared.

The armed suspect approached the driver and got into the bakkie and drove around with the crew up to the corner of Union and Broad streets in Springs Extension.

They (suspects) then demanded the key to open the storage compartment of the bakkie where they off-loaded a customer’s medication, cellphones and a set of pots.

One of the suspects appeared in a red Toyota Etios and loaded the goods into that car.

In addition to the goods removed from the courier van, the suspects also took the crew’s cellphones and drove off.

The crew were helped by a sector vehicle which was patrolling the area.

Value of the stolen items is unknown and no arrest or injuries were reported.
